Sit. Pose. Snap. Brisbane Portrait Photography 1850–1950
24 March – 30 July 2017
Drawn from the collection of local resident Marcel Safier, Sit. Pose. Snap. explores the evolution of studio portrait photography in Brisbane from the mid 19th-century onwards. Through the examination of personal stories within the context of the broader technological advancement of the medium, the exhibition teases out societal trends around identity and documentation.

Long before smartphones and selfies, people visited a studio portrait photographer to capture an image of themselves they wanted to share with the world.
